SNDC is Not a Dinner Club

Star Trek in the park/SNDC at Brian’s

by Mike on Jul.24, 2009, under Uncategorized

Mike here. We’d talked about having a picnic for the final Star Trek in the Park on Sunday 7/26. Brian just wrote by email to say that (a) he had some trouble posting here, but (b) he’s hoping we can either do SNDC at his place or simply wrap up by 8 so he can get to his place for an 8 p.m. event.

Fortunately, I can post. So in order to avoid last week’s confusion, I’m posting Brian’s email here to kick off discussion.

And I quote:

Roy and Electra are here visiting, so I am offering up an alternate option for this weekend. Hopefully in enough time that someone who was excited about Star Trek in the park could still go tomorrow…

I am hosting a different event at my house at ~8PM on Sunday. If people were willing to arrive a little earlier than usual and come here, I think we could be done by 8 without much trouble. Electra has a dance class from 4-7, so she would probably miss most of the gathering, but Roy and I would be there the whole time. Roy also did not sound completely opposed to Star Trek in the park if folks think it would end in time for him to get back here at 8.

Roy will also probably be available Sunday, August 9th, so this is not an exclusive, one-time only kind of deal, but I wanted to toss this out there for people to consider.

Okay, here’s a proposal that would include Star Trek, because I am indeed excited about it:

    - meet at Woodlawn Park at 4:30 with sandwich fixins
    - watch Star Trek while eating
    - hang out at park as long as we like afterward
    - If I can persuade Roy and Brian to attend said picnic, they head back to Brian’s by 7:30 without much trouble.

What you should do: post a comment saying whether you’d want to go to the picnic/Star Trek under those parameters.

The likeliest alternative, I think, is to do a normal SNDC at Brian’s at 4:30 or so. If I’m the only one who wants to see Star Trek, I’ll skip it; I’d rather see you guys.

Once we get a vote from Courtney, Dan, Brian and Roy, let’s figure out ingredients.

I can only commit to one weekend event, but will go along with whatever the majority decides. No strong opinions here.

Sorry, I was too slow to post. I like your plan, Mike. AYE.

    Also, something I wasn’t fully clear on: it sounds as if the 8 p.m. event isn’t a general-SNDC-crowd event, it’s a Brian-Roy-Electra event.

    Right, Brian?

  5. Brian

Yeah, 8 PM is gaming with the role-playing crew.

  6. Roy Huggins

I’m down with eithr plan, honestly. Star Trek sounds cool but cooking at Brian’s would be very relaxing…

  7. Ellery

I like the Star Trek plan. (Welcome back, Roy, btw!)

  8. Brian

It sounds like the consensus is for Star Trek. Could someone pick Roy up and drop him off from my house? I don’t think it would be too far out of the way for anyone, actually.

  9. Michael Andersen

    Yep, I can get Roy.

Sounds like you’re right, Brian. Sorry you can’t make it. Picnic stuff needed, then:

blankets – Mike’ll bring one; another wouldn’t hurt
forks, bowls, plates, knife, cutting board – Mike
salad w/ lettuce, tomato, carrot, broccoli – Mike
red onion, lettuce, pickles, mustard – Mike
    Fritos – Mike

    also needed:
    bread
    fake cheese
    fake meat
    beverages?
    tomato?
    avocado?
    something fruit-like?
anything else people like at picnics?

I’ll bring bread, tomato & avocado. I can probably bring another blanket, too.

If anyone needs help getting to Woodlawn Park, I know the route well.

Sounds like a good plan! I can bring vegetarian meat substitute (probably turkey and something else), soy cheese, a jug of water and plastic cups.

Let me know if anyone else needs a ride.

  12. CourtneySherwood

I have a picnic blanket, but I don’t think we can have too many of those.

I’ll also bring hummous, juice and cups.

  13. CourtneySherwood

Oh, and cucumbers. I’ll bring cucumbers.

  14. Roy Huggins

I’ll bring bread.I’ll try to bring some othercstuff, too.
