SNDC on 65th Oct. 31 (civil disobedience optional)
by Mike on Oct.24, 2010, under Uncategorized
I’m hosting an SNDC on Halloween at our place, 924 NE 65th Ave. I think we’ll have some sort of biscuits-eggs-and-hash scramble thing. Roy and Electra, would you like it at 1, or can you deal with returning to noon?
One thing we won’t have is my draft card, which after 11 years of obediently carrying in my successive wallets, SNDC helped me destroy last week in all-American fashion:
I think I may have enjoyed this more than most of us did.
Also, here’s an unrelated picture of El and Brian that I liked:
Healthy Mexican Tortilla Pizza
by danom on Oct.23, 2010, under Uncategorized
Sunday, October 24
12 noon (if people want to arrive later, cool, but I’d like to start cooking around 12:00)
3520 SE Taylor St (Dan’s house)
Healthy Mexican Tortilla Pizza (sans onions)
I’ll provide all of the ingredients for the pizza. If others want to bring side dishes or beverages, great!
Brazilian Black Bean Stew
by Brian on Oct.16, 2010, under Uncategorized
924 NE 65th Avenue
1pm
This is a vegetarian version of Brazil’s famous national dish, feijoada. The recipe is from Nava Atlas’s book Vegetarian Soups for All Seasons.
Ingredients:
- rice
- olive oil
- onion
- garlic
- sweet potatoes
- black beans
- red and yellow pepper
- diced tomatoes
- corn
- hot green chili
- cumin
- thyme
If people would like mango and cilantro for garnish, it will be available…I usually don’t put them in, cuz certain people here don’t like them.
We’ll have bread, as well as fixin’s for Oregon Chai (courtesy of Costco!). You’re welcome to bring any other drinks or side dishes as desired.
Chickpea Salad (& Vegan Cookies?)

Sunday, October 10
The Sills House, 1 p.m.
4922 N. Yale St
Portland 97203
Two pre-reqs:
1. Recipe should sound delicious.
2. Bethany will be gone, so it should be super-easy.
This seemed to fit the bill nicely. (I will *definitely* be cutting down on the vinegar though, to either half the amount or 1/4 cup). Have we done this before? So much the better.
Feel free to add suggestions to spruce this recipe up if you have an idea. Think I’ll add some vegan cookies to the mix to make sure we’re full (store-bought–I’ve nowhere near the skill to make them…)
As is customary, bring your chopping skills and a favorite side dish / beverage.
Pasta primavera on 65th, 1 pm
by Mike on Oct.03, 2010, under Uncategorized
It’s my turn, and I think we should make my favorite having-company dish: pasta primavera. I usually do an alfredo thing, but this recipe is slightly modified and dairy-free, assuming a little fake parmesan.
The date will be Oct. 3. The place will be 924 NE 65th. The time will be 1 p.m., per Roy’s request last week to accomodate for the farmer’s market. The time will also be awesome.
